Xomnia, ARAG, and Stop Pesten Nu fight Cyberbullying through Artificial Intelligence

Over 400,000 young people are bullied online (Centraal Bureau voor Statistiek). That has to stop, so Xomnia, ARAG and Stop Pesten Nu are organizing a datathon on cyberbullying on November 11 and 12. The datathon is a 24-hour challenge where teams of student associations of Artificial Intelligence and teams of different companies can  participate. Nowadays intelligent algorithms can extract all data, but automated methods to detect and prevent cyberbullies are not yet available. The teams collaborate with experts, data and new technology to fight cyberbullying.

24-hour fight against cyberbullying

Patricia Bolwerk of Stichting Stop Pesten Nu ‘It’s amazing that cyberbullying is the subject of this datathon. In order to tackle cyberbullying, we need to think of new ways to recognize and prevent cyberbullying.’ ‘An important part of the datathon is that it brings different parties together to exchange knowledge and discover what new technologies offer us to fight online bullying’ said Richard Faas, Director of Innovation at ARAG. ‘It’s in our DNA to take initiative to make the society a better place.’

Datathon with a social theme

Pieter Boon, partner at Xomnia, and the founder of the Xomnia Datathon, ‘After earlier editions: Sustainable fishing, Fully connected traveling (including KLM, Schiphol Group, NS and Provincie Gelderland) and the Safety Monitor (with the police and the Ministry of Security and justice) I am proud that we again can tackle an important social problem. We hope to gain new insights from the datathon, to give more insights into this phenomenon. Of course, it will be great if the solutions are preventive.’

Location

This year the datathon takes place at a unique location: The Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) in Den Bosch. It is a breeding ground for data science and artificial intelligence. Last year this institution was opened by Queen Maxima. Everyone who is interested is  welcome to visit the datathon.
