We are excited to share the details of our June Data & Drinks, which we hope will carry the usual enthusiasm of our event plus the energy of summer!

You're invited to join us on Thursday, June 6th at 17:30 at Xomnia's HQ to attend two talks by 3 experienced speakers: Product Architect at Albert Heijn Davey van Hennik, Power Platform Solution Architect at Sandvik Xander Gerreman, and Analytics Engineer Team Lead at Xomnia Luis Lucchini.

This free event includes dinner, drinks and a lot of networking opportunities with data professionals from Amsterdam and beyond.

Abstract of the talks:

Talk #1: Albert Heijn's Journey in Continuous Data Processing
This presentation will take us over the Continuous Data Processing journey of the Netherlands' leading food retailer. Discover how a microbatching data architecture fuels Albert Heijn's data science success, improving customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and supporting waste reduction.

One of our key enablers is the meta-driven Delta Lake, a pivotal component of our data infrastructure that empowers us to effectively manage and process data from our vast range of sources.
In this presentation, Davey will walk us through Albert Heijn's journey, sharing their insights and challenges in the realm of (continuous) data processing.

Talks #2: Next Level Analytics: Harnessing Git for Power BI Success

Embark on a captivating journey into the realm of analytics engineering and discover the innovative utilization of Power BI within Sandvik's Parts and Services team. This presentation begins by illuminating the pivotal role of analytics engineers, who champion data collaboration and streamline access to vital insights. From crafting intricate data transformation layers to delivering compelling visualizations, analytics engineers navigate a multifaceted landscape of responsibilities.

However, at Sandvik the spotlight shines brightest on a specific domain where skills truly flourish: Power BI. Addressing common grievances from Data Engineers regarding Power BI's proprietary nature and challenges with CI/CD implementations and collaboration, we unveil the game-changing introduction of TMDL. Through TMDL, we now operate within a dynamic environment that treats Power BI reports as XML and JSON files, seamlessly integrating them into an automated pipeline in Azure DevOps. This transformative approach facilitates collaborative development, version control, and rapid deployment of models. Join us as we unveil the power of TMDL, demonstrating how it revolutionizes Power BI development and empowers teams to unleash their full potential.
